The unemployment rate for Polk County for the month of March was 5.7%. Of the 20,457 workforce, 1,229 were reported to be jobless. The March unemployment rate is up slightly from last month 3 tenths of a percent. Chattooga County has the largest jobless rate in the area at 14.8%. Floyd County saw a one fifth of a percent jump in the unemployment rate. The closing of several area industries have contributed to the inflation of the unemployment rate.
