BODY FOUND AT WEISS LAKE THURSDAY

Cherokee County, Alabama authorities responded to a report of a body being discovered in Weiss Lake, near the state docks, at approximately 9:45 yesterday morning. According to Sheriff`s Department Investigator Mark Hicks, authorities are not sure at this time if this is a homicide, a case of suicide, or an accidental death. The victim was found unclothed. Authorities believe the body had been in the water since late Wednesday afternoon. Authorities are attempting to learn the identity of the individual. They added that none of the local law enforcement agencies have received any reports of a missing person. The Cherokee County Sheriff`s Department, Cedar Bluff Police, and Centre Police were the first to arrive on the scene, followed by the Alabama Marine Police, Coroner Don Rogers and District Attorney Mike O`Dell. The ABI and Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences were also called in. The Rescue Squad was asked to bring in an underwater camera in order to assist in the search for any vehicle that the victim may possibly have been in.
