POLK/FLOYD APPROVED FOR ECP

Polk and Floyd counties have been approved for the Emergency Conservation Program (ECP) due to tornado and high winds that caused damage to farmland on March 15, 2008, according to Todd Hice, Floyd/Polk County Executive Director for the United Sates Department of Agriculture`s Farm Agency (FSA). The practices that have been approved under this program for both counties is EC-1. This includes removal of debris (limbs, trees, building materials and more) from cropped fields or pasture land. The second is EC-3, which involves repairing or restoring fencing (either perimeter or cross fencing). Currently, there is no funding available, but a 20-day signup period will be held to determine the amount of funding needed. Applications will be taken through May 10, 2008 at the Farm Service Office, 1401 Dean Street, Suite I, Rome, Georgia 30161-6494 or by phone at 706-291-5654, Ext. 2.
