Recreation program set to grow as Moates joins department

Kayci McGee Moates

The Cedartown Recreation Department welcomed a new employee this week, and with that welcome comes high hopes of growing the city’s sports program.

Kayci McGee Moates began her duties at the recreation department on January 22. In addition to the general maintenance of city recreation facilities, preparation of playing fields, Moates has been asked to bring a new energy into growing the girls program. First project on her plate: softball.

Having grown up in the city’s softball program, and then going on to play at a high school level, Moates’ knowledge and passion about the sport has the rec department buzzing. “We feel like she’s the spark that’s needed to build up the softball program,” said Assistance Recreation Director Joe Colquitt. “She’s been a great athlete her entire life, she knows what it means to be a bullog and she’s got hometown pride.”

Softball sign-ups are currently under way at the rec department and will continue until February 16. “I think I am most excited about growing the softball program and getting more girls involved in the rec department,” Moates said. “I am going to be working hard in the coming weeks to recruit and making sure that every girl who would like to play softball will get that chance.”
