Final holiday traffic count released by GDOT

It was a much better than expected Christmas holiday travel period as only 12 people lost their lives on Georgia’s roadways. According to the Georgia Department of Public Safety, the only northwest Georgia highway fatality was reported in the Dalton area. The Georgia State Patrol and the Crash Reporting Unit at the Georgia DOT reports that 2,167 traffic crashes resulted in 503 injuries and 12 deaths. The numbers are significantly lower than the estimated 18 deaths and 976 injuries. The Christmas holiday traffic count began on Christmas Eve and went through midnight Sunday. The New Year’s holiday count will begin Thursday, December 31 and last through Sunday, January 3, 2010.
