An hours long cleanup wrapped up Wednesday afternoon after a multi-vehicle accident earlier in the morning, resulting in the death of a 58-year-old woman.
Polk County Coroner Tony Brazier reports that Carolyn Jackson, 58 of Rockmart was pronounced dead at the scene at 7:20 a.m. Wednesday morning.
According to a release from the Georgia State Patrol:
A 2006 Hyundai Sonata was traveling on GA 1 in the left turning lane that leads to the GA 6 Connector.
A tractor-trailer was traveling south on GA 1 in the right lane.
The driver of Hyundai failed to yield and made an improper turn, traveling west into the eastbound lane of the GA 6 Connector.
The front of the tractor-trailer made impact to the right side of the Sonata.
After impact, the truck jackknifed and began rotating in a clockwise manner before leaving the south shoulder of the roadway and striking a yield sign.
It then entered a ditch and struck an embankment.
The Hyundai rotated counter-clockwise across the southbound lanes, through the grassy median, and then into the northbound lanes of GA 1.
A Mack truck was traveling on GA 1 in the right lane and struck the right side of Hyundai as it entered the right lane.
it then rotated clockwise a second time and came to an uncontrolled final rest in the left northbound lane of GA 1 facing north.
After impact, the Mack truck continued northbound and traveled across the grassy median and through the southbound lanes of GA 1 where it struck a guardrail with its front.
After impact with the guardrail, The Hyundai traveled down a steep embankment and came to an uncontrolled final rest in a ditch facing west.
