A Lindale man was arrested and charged Monday after police say he broke into Huddle House on 299 Sunset Drive in Rome and stole a safe, according to Floyd County jail reports.
According to the reports:
Christopher Lee Lucas, 38, of 25 Circle Drive went to the Huddle House at 12:30 a.m. on Wednesday and broke in by breaking the glass out of the door. He had a pry bar, another silver tool and a flashlight in his mouth.
Lucas tried to pry open the cash register but couldn’t get it to open. He left Huddle House and five minutes later he came back and tried to get into the cash register again. After he failed to open the cash register a second time, he gave up and pried open the manager’s office and stole a safe. The reports did not elaborate on how much money he stole.
The Huddle House is closed from midnight to 5:30 a.m. on every night except Fridays and Saturdays when it is open 24 hours.
Lucas was charged with criminal damage to property in the second degree, criminal trespass, two counts of burglary, theft by taking, criminal damage to property in the second degree, possession of tools for the commission of a crime. He remained in jail Monday night without bond.
