It appears that a late fall opening will be in store for the new campus of Polk Medical Center as construction continues on the facility on Rockmart Highway just east of Cedartown.
Infrastructure improvements are nearly complete and the exterior parts of the new building are for the most part complete.
“Overall the project is on schedule and on budget and according to what our general contractor is telling us, we should have a certificate of occupancy around the middle of September,” said Matt Gormon, Polk Medical Center Administrator.
“We hope to be in the new facility at the beginning of November.”
The new 65,000 square foot facility will have 25 private beds, along with a 12 room emergency room and a surgical program.
“We’re going to have a medical office building that’s going to be large enough to accommodate up to six physicians,” Gormon said. “We’re currently in the process of recruiting those positions.”
The new hospital will also operate 24/7 emergency medical services.
Later this week, we will take a closer look on the new services to be offered at the new hospital, as well as hear an update on the insurance issue with Blue Cross Blue Shield of Georgia.
