Tallapoosa Police expect to make more arrests in a burglary case involving expensive merchandise that was stolen out of tractor trailers parked overnight at the Pilot Travel Center on Highway 100 near I-20 in Tallapoosa. So far, police said they’ve retained three suspects allegedly involved in the break-in of two trucks that happened on separate incidents last month. Tallapoosa Police Lt. Mark Worthy reported both incidents occurred at the same convenience stop, in which someone cut the metal seals off of the back of the trucks and made off with the contents. About two weeks later on Aug. 16, someone returned to the location in another attempt to steal from a truck containing Aeropostle clothing that had a retail value of $40,000. However, Worthy said this time, the truck driver had awoken from a nap and drove off once he realized someone was breaking into the truck. Worthy said police recovered some of the items that were stolen from both trucks, though the items police didn’t retrieve were likely sold. Two of the suspects have been released from jail on bond. The other suspect is currently being held at the Carroll County Jail. As the investigation is still underway, Worthy said all three suspects are facing jail time if they are convicted of felony charges that include theft, burglary and theft by receiving stolen property. Worthy said the police have gathered more information to assist with the case, but it is being withheld at this time due to a pending investigation.
