Burn ban still in effect

MEDIA RELEASE

Even with the rain we’ve had over the last week, Cedartown and Polk County still have a high fire risk rating and are still under a TOTAL BURN BAN. Remember, there are other factors that come into play when determining fire risk — like humidity and wind speed.

From Polk EMA and Fire Chief Randy Lacey:
“We have had numerous calls in reference to the Burn Ban. At this time the Burn Ban remains in effect. Rockmart Fire Chief Queen, Cedartown Fire Chief Stephens, Georgia Forestry Commission’s Denise Croker and myself have scheduled a meeting Tuesday Dec. 13 at 10 am. to discuss the ban.

A lot of the consideration will depend on how much rain we receive over the next several days. We have already reached a 3.0 Fire Danger (5.0 being the worst) even after the recent rain.
Note: With the right conditions (wind, humidity, fire danger) it would take very little to have fire conditions we experienced two weeks ago.”
