City commissioners are expected to discuss a proposed panhandlers ordinance when they meet in an open work session tonight.
Cedartown City Manager Bill Fann will present the proposal to the full commission during the session tonight.
The idea of a comprehensive ordinance dealing with the issue of panhandling has been tossed around various city commissioners over the past few months. This is the first time the issue has made it to an official meeting.
However, commissioners will not be taking any action on the matter this week.
Commissioners will also hear from the city manager on the Georgia Initiative for Community Housing. According to the State of Georgia government website, the Initiative offers communities a three-year program of collaboration and technical assistance related to housing and community development. The objective of the Initiative is to help communities create and launch a locally based plan to meet their housing needs.
The city commission meets in their work session tonight at 6:00 p.m. in the commission meeting room at Cedartown City Hall on East Avenue. The meeting is open to the public.
