Cedartown’s stellar junior class greatly contributed to the Lady Bulldogs’ opening day win over the Cass Lady Colonels.
Junior standout pitcher Ava Tillmann tossed a complete 7 innings, allowing only three hits on the afternoon.
Offensively, junior outfielder Shana Abram went 3-4 with two triples and four RBI.
The Lady Bulldogs would score first with a two spot in the top of the 3rd inning, thanks to hits from Abram and a throwing error by the Lady Colonels.
Cass would tie it up over the next couple of innings.
In the top of the 5th, an RBI triple by Abram would break the tie, giving Cedartown a 3-2 lead.
In the bottom half of the inning, Cass would tie it up again on a sacrifice groundout, after a throwing error by catcher Kirsten Overstreet allowed the runner to reach 3rd base.
In the top of the 7th, Overstreet would reach on a hit-by-pitch, followed by a walk by Lexi Smith. Abram would then connect with a line drive triple down the right field line to bring the runners in. Tillmann would contribute with an RBI infield hit in the inning to top off a four run 7th for Cedartown.
Tillmann would go the distance, striking out the side, picking up her first win of the season. The Lady Bulldogs win their season opener 7-3 over the Cass Lady Colonels.
Cedartown will participate in an exhibition tournament over the weekend before returning to their regular schedule on Monday at Bowdon.
