The city of Piedmont could be within months of digging a brand new well to help reduce usage of the water treatment plant. During its Tuesday night meeting the Piedmont City Council unanimously approved to move forward with bringing in a team headed by Steve Jennings of the ground and water assessment section of the Alabama Geological Survey. Jennings will begin gathering information on the geological layout of Piedmont to determine what would be the best location for a well. Through the survey, the city hopes to be able to find water on the first attempt. According to Piedmont Mayor Brian Young, the well would help the city cut costs by not requiring someone to be at the water treatment plant at all times and would also reduce the use of the plant. Young says that with the digging of the well, the city would be following the lead of others.
