Citizens of Cedartown and all of Polk County are mourning the loss of a beloved community leader .
Polk County Commission Chairman Billy Croker passed away Saturday afternoon after suffering a heart attack earlier in the week.
In addition to serving on the county commission, Croker had also served as Chairman of the Northwest Georgia Regional Commission as well as held numerous regional and state governmental agency positions.
He also owned and operated Croker’s Hardware Store in Cedartown for many years.
“Billy Croker was a loyal and committed man to Polk County,” said fellow county commissioner Jennifer Hulsey. “He loved his family very much and loved living in and being a part of his community.
“Billy was not one to brag about his accomplishments. He was more concerned to make sure that Polk County had the best, and he worked tirelessly to ensure that. He will be missed.”
The funeral for Croker will be held on Tuesday morning at 11:00 a.m. at First Baptist Church of Cedartown. The family will receive friends Monday evening from 5 p.m. until 9 p.m.
