Flames inflicted serious damage to a home Tuesday afternoon on Piedmont Highway according to Polk County Fire Department officials. Fire units responded after they were issued an alert around 2 p.m. Tuesday. According to reports, Georgia Forestry Service personnel were the first to arrive on the scene and were able to nearly douse the flames completely before Polk County Fire arrived. The response caused traffic on Piedmont Highway to be tied up at the time. No cause has yet been determined and it appears that no one was home during the blaze. An investigation into what caused the blaze is currently underway.
