A historic home in Lindale was completely destroyed Sunday night in a massive fire that could be seen for miles around. Fire fighters arrived at the scene on Booze Mountain Road at the intersection of Old Cedartown Road around 11:30pm to find the home completely involved. The homeowner operated a gun shop and apparently stored some ammunition in the structure, and Firefighters had to be cautious due to ammunition exploding continuously. It took firefighters around half an hour to get control over the flames. They were on the scene until the early morning hours putting out hot spots. Firefighting efforts were also hampered by a thunderstorm that moved in around midnight. Officials say it is unclear what caused the fire. Earlier in the evening a thunderstorm moved through the area with frequent cloud to ground lightening. It is not clear if lightening played a role in the blaze. The home was vacant at the time of the fire. Fire investigators were still on the scene early this morning.
