Polk School District superintendent Dr. William Hunter announced Thursday that he will be part of a search committee to find Rockmart’s next head coach after news came that Bin Turner would not be returning next year in that position.
Hunter did confirm that Turner remains employed by Polk School District at this time.
“Bin Turner is a really good football coach and a better individual, but Rockmart High School was a situation where I feel like we needed to go in a different direction for a head coach,” Hunter told the Polk County Standard Journal.
After former head coach Dan Duff retired in the spring of 2014, Turner was hired by Dr. Hunter as the new head coach and athletic director.
During his tenue, the Rockmart Yellow Jackets went 5-16, making the playoffs in 2014.
Rockmart missed out on the playoffs this year after losing to Cedartown 35-12 last week.
A committee, made up of the superintendent, assistant superintendent Greg Teams, principal Wesley Cupp, assistant prinicpals Jerry Hartline and Angela Howard has been formed to head up the search.
Hartline will assume control of the football program until a replacement is found, according to the paper.
