More details have been released in the fatal single vehicle accident that claimed the life of two Cedartown men.
According to Sgt. Joseph Stephens of the Georgia State Patrol, a 1993 Geo Tracker was traveling south on Cave Spring Road at about 7:00 p.m. Thursday evening when the driver negotiated a curve, applied his brakes on the wet roadway and skidded off of the west shoulder into the wet grass.
The Tracker then traveled down an embankment where it began to rotate and overturned on its roof before impacting a large tree.
Both the driver and passenger were ejected from the vehicle.
Polk County Coroner Tony Brazier said that 27-year-old Donald Bruce Pittman, Jr. and 27-year-old William Jeremy Beck were both pronounced dead on the scene at about 8:00 p.m. Thursday.
Vehicle 1, a 1993 Geo Tracker, was traveling south on Cave Spring Road. Driver 1 was negotiating a curve on the wet roadway. Driver 1 applied his brakes and the vehicle began to skid. Vehicle 1 skidded off of the west shoulder into the wet grass. Vehicle 1 traveled down the embankment where it began to rotate and overturn. Vehicle 1 overturned onto its roof and then impacted with a large tree. After impact with the tree, vehicle 1 came to final rest on it roof against the tree.
Both the driver and passenger were ejected in the crash and both were pronounced deceased at the crash scene.
